[A thought entrusted on your lips - rouge, isn't it?]
First aired - 3rd June 1997

This season's new look - applying make-up by the pound!A quiet afternoon is thrown into a state of general hilarity when Ryoko chooses to show off her first attempt at using make-up. It isn't a complete success; her approach to cosmetics would make a geisha's seem conservative! Ryoko, who has put some effort into it, is offended by everyone's reaction, and she storms off to her room in a temper.

In Tokyo, Sakuya and her friends discuss what kind of boys they like. Sakuya admits that the guy she would prefer is "someone who waits for her". After school, Tenchi returns to his apartment and finds two messages on his answering machine. The first is from Ryoko. She has organized a date with Tenchi on the following Sunday, and she is going to meet him in Station Park (and woe betide him if he doesn't show up!). The second is from Sakuya, asking Tenchi to go for a walk with her in Station Park at the weekend.

Ryoko's smart new lookThat Sunday, Tenchi is waiting for Ryoko in Station Park, and she's running late. However, she soon turns up, wearing a smart new dress, new earrings and new hairstyle. Eager to get her date underway, she drags Tenchi away to a fashionable restaurant (or at least her idea of fashionable), where she lives up to her reputation as a glutton. After the restaurant, they visit the video arcade, the photo machines and a karaoke bar. While all this is going on, Sakuya waits patiently in the park.

As the evening draws in, Ryoko and Tenchi take a walk through the neon-lit streets of the city. Tenchi feels a little uneasy; he has spent the day doing what Ryoko wants without a pause for breath. Now he finally has a quiet moment, he notices that Ryoko is wearing lipstick. He is quite taken aback, having never seen her wearing make-up before. He sees that she has gone to some effort for her date, so he relents and, grasping her hand, he asks her where she wants to go next. After a hectic day, they pause by a fountain in a square while Tenchi fetches them cold drinks. As she waits, Ryoko searches her feelings about Tenchi, wondering why she should feel so strange just from the touch of his hand. When Tenchi returns with the drinks, Ryoko admits she has had enough fun for one day, and flies off home. However, Sakuya witnessed the two of them part company. As she confronts Tenchi, she sees the photo of him and Ryoko in the photo booth. Tears of a demonTenchi realises, with a pang of guilt, that Sakuya must have been waiting in the park the whole day. Sakuya thinks she has lost Tenchi, and asks him where she went wrong. She tells him that for a long time she has been seeing an image of someone waiting for her every time she walks home from school alone, and she had thought it was Tenchi waiting for her. But now, having seen Tenchi on a date with another woman, she believes that he is not the one she is waiting for. With tears in her eyes, Sakuya turns and leaves.

Above, silhouetted against the moon, Yugi watches the scene, and a single tear trickles down her cheek.

Fact! During Tenchi's date with Ryoko, they visit some photo sticker machines (a type of photo booth, often referred to as "purikura" or "print club", that prints out sheets of postage stamp-sized stickers with fun graphics or backgrounds added to the picture). The machines seen in the episode feature Pretty Sammy, Sasami's magical alter-ego from the spin-off series Magical Girl Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S. In-joke
