The
two-part story concludes. The party celebrating the second anniversary
of the arrival of Tenchi's interstellar visitors is in full swing. Sakuya
unexpectedly arrives to meet Tenchi's family, but as ever she is being
watched by the malevolent Yugi. Yugi summons a freakish monkey-like
demon that tails Sakuya to Tenchi's house. Meanwhile, Tenchi is having
trouble enjoying the festivities. He doesn't believe that he is deserving
of all the attention he is getting; after all, it was the crystal necklace
he inherited from his mother that brought them all together. The others
admit that although this is true, it was Tenchi's caring attitude tending
to their injuries after the fight that made them stay...
Following the intense
battle that was their first meeting, Tenchi's visitors needed time to
heal their wounds and recoup their strength. Tenchi was run off his
feet changing bandages, feeding, cooking and cleaning for his house
guests. Ryoko was the most badly wounded, having been hurt by Tenchi's
gem sword, and she remained in a coma. Wracked with guilt over what
happened to her, Tenchi stayed by her bedside whenever he had a spare
moment.
The
anniversary party is interrupted by a knock at the door. Sakuya has
arrived, and is surprised to meet Ryoko and Ayeka again (who she
still
thinks are "Monster Busters", as Tenchi referred to them in episode
4). Annoyed at Sakuya for her continued attempts to get closer
to Tenchi, Ryoko and Ayeka proudly show off their crystal bracelets
as
proof of their bond to him, only to find that all the bracelets have
vanished! Ryoko quickly jumps to the conclusion that, since they
vanished
shortly after Sakuya arrived, it must be her that stole them. Ryoko
shakes her down to see if she has the jewels, and when she can't
find
them, she threatens Sakuya with violent retribution. However, Tenchi
leaps to Sakuya's defence and tells Ryoko that he trusts Sakuya.
Thinking
that Tenchi is picking sides, Ryoko flies off in a temper. Washu arrives
on the scene, having found her gem detector. The device quickly homes
in on the monkey beast, who is caught red-handed with the gems. The
furious Ayeka hits the monkey with her fan, sending it smashing through
the ceiling and out over the lake.
Meanwhile,
at the lakeside, Ryoko remembers how angry she had been at Tenchi before
for defeating her, but how his kindness had quelled her temper. His
evenings spent at her bedside as she recovered, telling her all about
planet Earth, made her decide to stay with him instead of going back
to space piracy.
Ryoko is snapped
out of her nostalgia when Tenchi and the girls meet her at the lake
shore, still chasing the monkey demon. Ryoko realises that the monkey
demon is responsible for stealing the gems. She blasts it out of existence,
and retrieves the gem, the symbol of her bond with Tenchi.
The gems were given
to all the girls two years previously, so that Tenchi's gem sword would
never be able to harm anyone again. Ryoko promised to stay on Earth
with Tenchi. Ayeka claimed she needed to stay because she is bound by
royal duty (although Sasami thought it had more to do with wanting to
be with Tenchi). Mihoshi and Kiyone said they needed to stay on Earth
to keep an eye on Ryoko as a wanted criminal, and Washu stayed to study
the power of Tenchi's gems. Tenchi agreed to let them stay, worried
about what troubles were in store for him with a bunch of troublemakers
staying at his home.
Their bracelets
recovered, the revellers return to the house. Feeling out of place,
Sakuya slips away almost unnoticed, but Katsuhito offers her a room
for the night, saying she can accompany Tenchi back to Tokyo the following
day.
Yugi, who has been
watching the crisis unfold, is impressed with how close the bonds are
between Tenchi and the girls.
