Tenchi is in a good mood - he has worked out how to close his end of the inter-dimensional tunnel by folding his bedclothes, meaning he can get finally some peace. Back in Okayama, Ryoko tries to pay Tenchi a visit through the tunnel, and her violent attempts to get through the blocked portal shake Tenchi's bed in Tokyo. Thinking Ryoko's banging and crashing is an earthquake, he dives under the covers to shelter, inadvertently reopening the portal and letting Ryoko through. However, before she can get overly amorous with him, he dumps her back through the portal and tells her not to keep barging in on him uninvited. Back in Okayama, Ryoko's commotion has woken the whole house, and she gets the blame for Tenchi wanting to close the tunnel. Ryoko 'persuades' Washu to find another way of keeping an eye on Tenchi.
Meanwhile, Tenchi is late for his duties at the shrine. In fact, he's running so late that by the time he has started his chores, he is running late for school! Fortunately, he manages to arrive before the bell, and settles down for classes. Outside, a small robot flutters into view, apparently watching Tenchi, and begins to broadcast images back to the TV at Tenchi's house in Okayama. The girls are delighted that they can keep an eye on Tenchi with Washu's robotic spy probes. They are far too absorbed in the events on screen to listen to Washu's explanation of how the messages are relayed from probe to probe to get the signals all the way across Japan. However, they are less pleased when they spot Tenchi talking to Sakuya again, making them all the more determined to find a way back to Tokyo.
Yugi watches the scene with amusement. To put a stop to their spying, she summons a demon from a cellular telephone. Hell-bent on putting a stop to all long-distance relationships, the demon scrambles every cell-phone, long-distance line and radio transmission in the country, including Washu's spy probes. With the signals cut off, Washu tries in vain to fix the problem. However, the probes, under the influence of the cellular phone demon, start transmitting garbled messages, so instead of displaying the correct images of Tenchi at school, they show pictures of Tenchi in mortal danger, Tenchi as a demon, Tenchi lying in Sakuya's lap on a tropical beach, even Tenchi practicing calligraphy in a pink elephant costume! Distressed by the images played out on the screen in front of them, the girls go into shock. Fortunately, Washu figures out what's wrong and locates the phone demon. Ryo-Ohki transforms into her spaceship guise and sets out to confront the demon. Although the demon manages to beat Ryo-Ohki, Ryoko attacks the demon herself and defeats it. The spy probes, now missing the control of the demon, shut down and drop out of the sky.
That evening, Tenchi pops back through the tunnel with a box of cookies to share with the girls. Everyone is so pleased to see that he is all right that he is left wondering just what went on that day to make everyone act so oddly...
