| Episode 10 - | No Need for an Arch Rival! |
| Shukuteki muyō! | |
| First aired - | 4th June 1995 |
In a seedy bar in the roughest part of the galaxy, talk amongst the gangsters and lowlifes has turned to the subject of the disappearance of Ryoko, the much respected and feared space pirate. Rumours of her settling down on planet Earth abound, and these tales are of particular interest to one shady stranger. This mysterious woman turns out to be a bounty hunter, and a demonstration of her combat ability to the barfly crooks is enough to persuade them to impart their information on Ryoko's whereabouts.
On Earth, Tenchi is harvesting the crop of carrots in the fields as storm clouds gather overhead. When he spots a sudden movement near his basket, he initially thinks Ryo-Ohki is after the carrots, but finds, to his surprise, another cabbit; slightly larger than Ryo-Ohki, a pale beige colour, with red eyes and a yellow gem on its forehead. Tenchi hears a noise and turns to investigate, and screams as a huge shadow is cast over him by some unseen terror that has arrived!
Back at the Masaki house, Ayeka is in a foul mood. Tenchi is missing, and worse still, Ryoko is too — and the princess has come to her own conclusions about what that could mean! As Ayeka continues to search, Ryo-Ohki, who has been enjoying a snack break with the rest of the family, suddenly starts to hiss and yowl at something up on the ceiling. From its hiding place in the rafters, the mystery cabbit leaps down and faces Ryo-Ohki, hissing and spitting. Sasami steps in and pulls Ryo-Ohki away before a fight breaks out, chiding her for being so aggressive. The new cabbit calms down when he and Ryo-Ohki are presented with a basket of carrots. The visitor is hesitant, but is soon sharing carrots with Ryo-Ohki, even saving the last one for her. As the girls adoringly watch them eat, Ryoko enters, having just finished her bath. With a look of horrified disbelief, she recognises the cabbit as Ken-Ohki. Before she can explain any further, Ken-Ohki turns, as if hearing someone calling him, and runs out through the window. Ryoko rushes after him, asking the others to follow too.
They track Ken-Ohki out to the fields, where they find his owner, the bounty hunter from the space bar, waiting. Kiyone recognises her as Nagi, a top bounty hunter. Nagi has come to Earth to claim the price on Ryoko's head. Nagi tells Ryoko that she has taken Tenchi hostage, and if she wants to see him again she must come to Venus to settle their fight. At Nagi's order, Ken-Ohki transforms into his spaceship form and Nagi leaves for Venus.
As the girls head for Venus aboard Ryo-Ohki, followed closely by Kiyone and Mihoshi aboard their ship, Ryoko explains how she and Nagi have had a rivalry for years, and have faced each other many times. She tells everyone that the only person ever to survive an encounter with the ruthless bounty hunter is herself, and this time she may not be so lucky.
Soon, the girls arrive at Venus and find Nagi waiting in orbit aboard Ken-Ohki. Ryoko orders Ryo-Ohki to open fire on Nagi's ship, but she disobeys with a meow of protest. In the delay, Nagi fires at Ryo-Ohki, but Mihoshi and Kiyone are ready for her, and attack back with Yagami's weapons. With Ryo-Ohki still disobeying Ryoko's commands, Nagi spots the opportunity to finish her off, and orders to Ken-Ohki to destroy the ship. However, Ken-Ohki too lets out a howl of complaint and stops responding to Nagi's commands. The two ships, being in love with each other, cannot bring themselves to hurt one another! Nagi appears on Ryo-Ohki's communication screen and suggests that they finish the battle on the planet below.
On the surface of Venus, Washu has created an authentic western-style replica town, protected from the planet's harsh surroundings by a force field, for Ryoko's showdown. And in true western style, Nagi appears on the horizon silhouetted against the setting sun. As Ryoko's nemesis approaches, she drags a coffin behind her, in which she has Tenchi tied up and gagged. She tells Ryoko that, if she wins, Tenchi will be returned. They face each other for their showdown. Ryoko is first to attack, launching an energy bolt at Nagi, who dodges with ease and returns fire. Ryoko draws her light sword, and Nagi activates her energy whip. They clash, and Ryoko's sword is knocked from her hand. Nagi's whip wraps around Ryoko's neck and the bounty hunter prepares to finish her prey. However, she is distracted by Ayeka, who is freeing Tenchi from the coffin and trying to make off with him. Nagi fires a bolt from her energy sword at Ayeka, who blocks it with her Jurai shield. The energy bolt bounces off Ayeka's shield and slices through Nagi's energy whip, freeing Ryoko. In the distraction, Ryoko has time to summon a powerful bolt of energy and fire at Nagi. Caught off guard, Nagi is hit by Ryoko's attack and crashes backwards through a building. She staggers out of the wreckage and collapses, defeated. As Ryoko stands over her fallen nemesis, Nagi admits defeat, and asks Ryoko to kill her. However, Ken-Ohki steps in front of his master, and Ryo-Ohki joins him. Ryoko stands down, and orders Nagi to leave. As the bounty hunter turns to leave, Ryo-Ohki and Ken-Ohki take one last wistful look at each other. Ryoko cottons on, realizing that Ryo-Ohki has a thing for her rival's cabbit, and suggests that she could do a lot better than that!
