It's the evening
of the annual festival at the Masaki shrine, and the whole family
is
getting involved. The girls are running carnival stalls, and Tenchi
is taking Sasami around. Sasami is very excited about visiting her
first
fair on Earth. The first stall they visit is the kingyo-sukui
(goldfish catching game). Sasami doesn't manage to catch any, but Tenchi
gives her the ones he caught.
Walking
on a little further, they come across Ryoko, who is also running
a kingyo-sukui
stand. Sasami wants to try her luck again, but there are no goldfish
to be seen in Ryoko's tank. Ryoko invites Tenchi to take a closer
look,
handing him a pair of scuba goggles. When Tenchi sticks his head under
the water, he sees the tank is a lot deeper than it looks — and
from out of the murky depths rushes a huge and vicious-looking fish!
Rather
than risk his life any further, Tenchi leads Sasami further on through
the carnival.
A short while later,
they come across Mihoshi and Kiyone's yakisoba (fried buckwheat
noodles) stall and order two servings. Unfortunately, they discover
that Mihoshi has ruined the cabbages and Ryo-ohki has eaten all the
carrots, so the stall has to close down!
Meanwhile,
Ryoko, having closed down her kingyo-sukui stand, is concocting
another moneymaking scheme. With the aid of a duplicate of herself acting
as a stooge, she tries selling her own brand of miracle cure to the
crowds. However, Tenchi turns up in time to stop her conning any innocent
passers-by.
Elsewhere, Ayeka's
shateki (shooting gallery) stall is having problems of its own;
Ayeka has found that shooting corks at her targets, a row of mean-looking
Ryoko dolls, is so much fun that she won't let the customers have their
turn!
Tenchi
and Sasami walk on through the fair until they come across Washu's
haunted house attraction. They enter, expecting nothing more than
the usual
spooky costumes and tricks, but find that, being designed by Washu,
it is infinitely scarier than that. Upon opening the door, they are
confronted by a terrifying demon in a lake of boiling magma. They
retreat
through the door, and find themselves standing in a landscape of razor-sharp
spikes littered with corpses. They try the door again, and find themselves
falling into a bottomless pit. When they finally emerge, exhausted
and
terrified, Washu is pleasantly surprised to find they have survived
her inter-dimensional house of horrors!
Back at Ayeka's
shateki stall, the princess is annoyed to discover that, in another
moneymaking venture, Ryoko has set up another shateki stand right
next to hers, this time featuring dolls of Ayeka as targets. The two
of them begin arguing, first firing their cork guns at each other, then
kicking each others' stalls over.
Meanwhile, Tenchi
and Sasami meet Mihoshi and Kiyone again, who are running a cotton candy
stall. Unfortunately, their cotton candy machine is an ultra-high-speed
model made by Washu, and with Mihoshi working it, it soon runs out of
control, sending pink clouds of cotton candy shooting out over the carnival!
Ryoko
and Ayeka's fight continues. They both recall a time when they were
younger, when they both met at a festival. Ayeka claims that Ryoko conned
her into buying a rather ugly Ryo-ohki doll, while Ryoko maintains that
she was simply running her pottery stall quietly when Ayeka came along,
accused her of trespassing on Jurai territory and smashed her wares.
However, their fight is soon interrupted when the ever-growing cloud
of cotton candy from Washu's out-of-control machine threatens to engulf
the whole carnival!
That night, after
the excitement of the festival is over, Sasami lies on her futon watching
the goldfish Tenchi gave her, and reflects that although the day ended
in chaos, it was still a lot of fun.
