| Episode 13 - | Here Comes Jurai! |
| Jurai tari na ba sachi tÅkaraji | |
| Release date - | 25th September 1995 |
The opening section of this episode takes place shortly after the Kagato incident (it picks up at the point in episode 7 where Mihoshi submits her report to GPHQ). At Galaxy Police headquarters, Mihoshi's report on the Kagato incident has finally arrived. However, the police chief, ordered to protect the secrets of the hidden power of Jurai detailed in the report, decides that a censored report is more appropriate for final submission, and burns Mihoshi's report for replacement with a new version.
Months later, on Earth, Tenchi and Ayeka are performing their usual chores at the family shrine when a woman visitor arrives and asks to see the priest. As Tenchi heads off to find his grandfather, Ayeka spots the visitor and recognises her, calling her by name: “Funaho”. When Tenchi's grandfather sees Funaho, he is taken aback. It's been a long time since he last saw his mother!
At Tenchi's house, Ryoko is woken by the doorbell. She answers the door to a rather loud and exuberant Juraian lady who mistakes her for Sasami and gives her a bone-crushing hug. Between gasps, Ryoko tries to explain that she must have made a mistake, but the lady doesn't listen. When Sasami walks in, the lady finally realises her mistake, and Sasami rushes to greet her mother, Misaki. Before long, Ayeka arrives back at the house, eager to see her mother as well. Before she rushes to greet her, Ayeka gives Ryoko a stern warning not to mock her, and rushes into the arms of her mother crying “mommy!”. Despite her warning, Ryoko thinks this is incredibly amusing and can't help but laugh out loud at how ridiculous Ayeka sounds. She quickly regrets this as Misaki, overprotective mother as she is, punishes Ryoko for mocking Ayeka by pulling her face until she apologises!
At the shrine, Funaho takes tea with her son. As it is just the two of them there, Tenchi's grandfather removes his Katsuhito disguise. Underneath, as Yosho, he looks virtually the same as when he left Jurai 700 years previously. Funaho discusses matters on planet Jurai, the resurrection of Ryoko (as documented in Mihoshi's report), whether Tenchi is suitable for the role of crown prince of Jurai, and just why her son hasn't written to her in over 700 years! She also discusses the nature of Ryoko's gems and Washu's scientific genius. Once they are done, Yosho changes back into his disguise, and asks Tenchi to escort Funaho back to the house. On the way back, she offers him the opportunity to come back to Jurai with her. Before Tenchi can reply, Washu meets them on the path. Washu sends Tenchi on ahead and escorts Funaho back by herself. As they walk together, Funaho offers Washu a proposal to come and work on Jurai developing battleship technology based on Ryo-Ohki's design, which Washu decides to turn down.
Back at the house, Ryo-Ohki is showing off her new trick, a cute little song and dance. As Tenchi arrives, Misaki greets him in her usual hug-anything-that-moves manner, much to Ryoko and Ayeka's chagrin.
Soon after, the Juraian flagship, carrying Azusa arrives. He is the king of Jurai, as well as Ayeka, Sasami and Yosho's father (therefore making him Tenchi's great-grandfather). He is a strict parent, and he orders Ayeka and Sasami to return home to Jurai. He also tells Ayeka that he has chosen a fiancé for her. However, Ayeka and Sasami are determined to stay on Earth. Azusa comes to a compromise: if Tenchi can beat Ayeka's suitor in a duel, then the engagement is off and Ayeka and Sasami can stay on Earth. With a prompt sense of drama, Ayeka's suitor Seiryo arrives on the scene. As he and Tenchi square up for their duel, the bets are on, and Tenchi is the odds-on favourite. However, Washu already knows the outcome of the duel and has provided everyone with umbrellas in readiness. Overhead, the roar of a jet engine signals Mihoshi's return to Earth, and once again her ship is out of control. Her shuttle crashes into the lake and the resulting wave simply washes the unsuspecting Seiryo away!
Beaten, Azusa leaves for Jurai, and Funaho and Misaki's all-too-brief visit is over. However, Azusa is not a man who gives up easily, and he is soon plotting his return to Earth. In the meantime, Tenchi just has the usual troubles of living with a mismatched bunch of lodgers from space to contend with!
There is a hidden frame in the scene where Misaki mistakes Ryoko for Sasami. In the shot where she shouts “You've changed so much, Sasami!” / “Sasami, you look like a punk!” (the translation differs in the dubbed and subtitled versions), the hidden frame, shown here, features Misaki's mouth filling almost the whole screen!
