Episode 9 -	Sasami and Tsunami

Tenchi and his extended family arrive at the local hot springs resort, ready for a much-needed break. However, Tenchi's great-aunt, the owner of the hot springs, has other plans for them. Since it was they who wrecked the resort back in episode 4, it's up to them to repair all the damage. Washu, who was not part of the group at the time of that incident, is excused from working and she takes Sasami on a nature ramble through the woods. Sasami, however, seems distracted, and soon wanders off.

Back at the inn, as Ryoko, Ayeka and Mihoshi are preparing food, they see a mysterious figure in white pass the doorway. Ayeka checks the corridor, but only finds Sasami there. Sasami seems to have something she wants to tell Ayeka, but when Ryoko calls to ask Ayeka what is happening, Sasami changes her mind and leaves. Meanwhile, Tenchi, Katsuhito and Nobuyuki are fixing the building when they also spot the mysterious figure in white.

Later that day, Ryoko tells Tenchi about the ghost they saw. Katsuhito confirms this by telling them the story of the white ghost, about how, long ago, a sickly woman died nearby waiting for her husband to find a cure for her illness. Of course, this is nothing more than a practical joke by Tenchi's mischievous father and grandfather, and a pretty weak one at that, but it doesn't explain the sightings of the woman in white.

Tenchi sets to repairing the fuse box, but in the dark he sees the 'white ghost' again and runs in a blind panic into the women's bath, where Ayeka is taking a late night soak. The commotion soon brings all the others to the bath, where they all see the white ghost again. As the lights finally come on, they see it is actually Sasami. However, Mihoshi spots something odd; Sasami's reflection in the pool is Tsunami - the woman in white!

Sasami runs away into the woods, and everyone goes searching for her. Ayeka finally finds her at the edge of the lake. Tenchi also spots her, but Washu, who is hiding in a bush nearby, urges him to leave Ayeka and Sasami alone to discuss things. Just to make sure they're not interrupted, she has bound and gagged Ryoko and Mihoshi!

Left to talk to her sister, the tearful Sasami finally confesses what has been bothering her all this time: she is not the real Sasami. Tsunami, in Sasami's reflection, continues the story. Seven hundred years ago, during Ryoko's attack on Jurai, a young princess Sasami strayed into the arboretum in the royal palace. While she was in there, an explosion rocked the palace and Sasami fell from a walkway. She was very badly wounded, but her life was saved by assimilating with the spirit of Tsunami, the origin tree of Jurai. Ayeka tells Sasami that despite this, she still loves her, so whether she is the true Sasami or not doesn't matter.

A little while later, Nobuyuki and Katsuhito soon catch up with everyone, bringing a hamper of food, and they enjoy a party by the lake shore. As the party is in full swing, Ryoko spots Ayeka staying apart from the festivities. Ayeka tells Ryoko that since Tsunami and Sasami are assimilated, Sasami will look like Tsunami when she grows up. Neither of them are particularly pleased about this, as they both consider Tsunami to be far more beautiful than themselves. Before long, the pair of them are arguing again, and it takes Mihoshi, who accidentally knocks them both into the water to put a stop to it!
