Episode 6 - We Need Tenchi
  Tenchi hitsuyô
  Tenchi hitsuyô
Release date - 25th March 1993

Ryoko boards Ryo-ohki bearing the bad news; Tenchi is apparently dead. Seeking revenge on Kagato, Ryoko activates her battle suit and files Ryo-ohki straight at Kagato's ship, piercing its shields. Arriving on Kagato's ship, Ryoko, Ayeka and Mihoshi, all dressed in their battle armour, split up to locate their foe.

Sasami rushes to save TenchiMeanwhile, on Earth, Sasami has sensed what has happened to Tenchi. With no time to waste, she rushes to Yosho's life tree and performs an ancient Juraian incantation. She disappears into the trunk of the tree. Among the floating wreckage of the Ryu-Oh, Tenchi's body is suspended in a shield generated by Azaka and Kamidake, alive but very badly wounded. A beautiful Juraian woman, Tsunami, appears before him and absorbs herself into his body.

Washu awakesBack on the Soja, the girls have arrived outside Kagato's main chamber. Mihoshi, who turns up a little late, accidentally drops her GP control cube and it teleports her into a mirror version of the ship. Ayeka and Ryoko proceed to confront Kagato, and they attack. Tricked by an illusion, Ryoko is caught by Kagato and turned to stone, and with her out of the way, Kagato tries to probe Ayeka's mind for the secret of Jurai.

Meanwhile, in the mirror world, Mihoshi is attacked by a pair of giant stone snakes, and in her panic to defend herself with her control cube, she manages to free a young girl who was sealed inside a crystal. The girl, Washu, saves Mihoshi from the snakes and brings Ryoko's astral body into the mirror world to return her back to normal. Washu introduces herself as the top scientific genius in the universe, the creator of Ryo-ohki and Soja, and Ryoko's mother. She sends Ryoko back into battle against Kagato, but she and Mihoshi cannot help, as they are trapped in the mirror world and can do little more than cheer Ryoko on.

Tenchi attacksSome distance away from the Soja, Tsunami has restored Tenchi's body and saved him from near-death. She tells him that she is the personification of a Juraian ship, and that her owner is Sasami (even her reflection looks like Sasami). She also tells him that he must assist Ryoko in combat, relying on his own power to succeed.

Back aboard the Soja, Ryoko is having a tough time beating Kagato. Washu realises that Ryoko cannot use her full power without risking Ayeka's life, so she teleports Ayeka to the safety of the mirror world. Annoyed at Washu's interference, Kagato uses Ryoko's gems to fire his destructive weapon on Earth, but before the beam hits, a set of Juraian Light Hawk Wings belonging to Tsunami appear and absorb it. As Kagato is about to kill the weakened Ryoko, Tenchi appears and engages him in combat. However, he is still not powerful enough to defeat Kagato by himself, and he is almost defeated before he remembers Tsunami's advice; not to rely on the sword alone. Discarding the sword, he draws on his own power to summon the Light Hawk Wings from his own body. Transforming one of the wings into a sword, he rushes at Kagato and cuts him in two. Kagato dissolves away, and the battle is won. The girls are quick to rush and thank Tenchi for saving them, but they have to abandon ship hastily; along with Kagato, the Soja was cut completely in half by Tenchi's sword!

Back on Earth, Washu has joined the others as yet another house guest, and Azaka and Kamidake have found a job serving as gateposts and guards outside Tenchi's house. Stuck with so many unusual lodgers at his home, poor Tenchi's life remains in chaos...

<< Episode 5 - Kagato Attacks

Fact! Hidden FramesThere are two hidden frames in one shot here. The first is when Mihoshi kicks an attacking stone snake in the face, and the second when the kicked snake lands on the other. Both frames feature red Japanese text inside yellow 'impact' lines.
Fact! Freeze FrameNot exactly a hidden frame, but an interesting moment nonetheless. When Washu exclaims "that is why it is so perfect!" (about her designing and building Kagato's ship), we get this amusing pose, featuring Washu with her middle finger raised. It should be noted that this gesture does not have the same connotations in Japan as it does in many western cultures. The Japanese text in the background is obscured, but the readable words are "atashi" (a feminine variant of "watashi", meaning "I" or "me") and "tensai" (meaning "genius") - clearly it is Washu's oft-repeated boast of "I am a genius!". Needless to say, Washu's gesture necessitated this shot to be removed from the censored TV version.
