Episode 26 - Lunar Vows
  tsugi no chigiri
  tsugi no chigiri
Dub title - Final Engagement
First aired - 25th September 2002

Seina's adventures in the Galaxy Police have, for now at least, ended, and he has returned to Earth. Finding himself back amongst familiar surroundings, he can scarcely believe that he has been to places and seen things than nobody on Earth ever will. He gazes up into the sky and remembers the events that took place just a short time ago...

'I'm getting married to *how* many girls!?'After her meeting with Seto in the previous episode, Airi calls Seina to her office where, much to his surprise, his parents and his sister Yoshiko are waiting. They have come to witness Seina's first mission — getting married! The shocked Seina asks who his bride will be, and his mother tells him he will wed Kiriko, Amane, Ryoko and Neiju. As Seina goes into a panic, his father goes on to tell him the marriage is a purely political affair, and his mother tells him the wedding will be held on the far side of Earth's moon. Seina is outraged, but a pair of guards drag him off before he can object any further.

Soon after the meeting, Seina and his family returned to Earth to prepare for the wedding. The night before the wedding, the Yamada family sit down to dinner at home, but Seina doesn't join them. As he stares at the moon, he imagines each of his brides-to-be rejecting him; Amane confessing she has been in love with Seiryo all along; Ryoko accusing him of trying to bring down the Balouta dynasty; Neiju blaming him for forcing her to marry him; Kiriko telling him to go home and never venture into space again. Seina wakes from his nightmare with a start. Morning has already broken and the day of his wedding has arrived.

Spaceships of every shape and size flock towards the venue, a palatial space-station in low orbit on the far side of the moon, as the wedding guests arrive. Airi and Mikami are already overseeing the preparations, and with guests coming from five families and no end of other relations, organising it is no small feat. Lady Seto has already picked up the Yamada family, and her husband Utsutsumi is rehearsing his speech for the ceremony. Seina is already aboard the space-station, sitting in his chamber and nervously awaiting the beginning of the wedding. Airi arrives to help him prepare for the service, but Seina is still having doubts. He wonders if the girls are really willing to enter into a marriage, political or otherwise, with him, since he hasn't even spoken to them about it yet. Airi asks him if he likes the girls, to which Seina bashfully admits he does. Airi decides to quell his worries once and for all, and drags him off to ask them in person.

Seina's blushing bridesSeina arrives at the girls' dressing room, and his four brides-to-be are a sight to behold indeed, each in a magnificent wedding gown. Even Fuku is bedecked in a pretty white ribbon! Blushing, Seina tells them they all look beautiful, which elicits overjoyed reactions from the girls. Fuku meows to seek Seina's approval as well, and he tells her she also looks pretty. Airi comments that since Seina will now be the owner of the Kamidake, he is effectively "marrying" Fuku as well! Before long, the girls start to bicker over who has the better dress, and Seina is finally satisfied that they are willing to go ahead with the wedding. Just then, a valet arrives to take Seina to be fitted for his suit.

The valet leads Seina to a room, but when he enters it is not a dressing room but a storage bay. Locking the door behind them, the valet shoves Seina violently into the room. He strips off his disguise to reveal he is no valet but Tarant Shunk, now with more artificial body parts than ever after his narrow escape from Seina and the Idol (see episode 24). He punches Seina in the stomach, knocking him to the floor, then lunges at him with a sharp spike that springs from the knee of his cybernetic leg. Seina dodges, and the spike pierces the floor. Gloating, Tarant draws Seina's old pocket knife and tells him that after he kills him he will move on to Kiriko as well. Seina gropes for the control panel on the wall and activates the cargo bay sealant guns (just like his encounter with Komachi in episode 9). The sealant gel covers the hole left in the floor, trapping Tarant's leg, and Seina launches a ferocious kick at his head. Tarant's leg snaps off at the knee and he crashes against the door. The sealant guns fire again, covering Tarant from head to toe in sealant gel. Seina approaches the immobilised pirate and gets the shock of his life when he appears to still be moving, but fortunately it is only the door opening as Mitoto, busy cleaning as usual, enters!

Even after this little incident, preparations for the wedding remain in full flow. Alan, Barry and Cohen have been assigned jobs as waiters at the reception, but they are still under the command of their pompous ex-captain Seiryo, who has been appointed head waiter (after all, the wedding space-station is on hire from his family's corporation!). Meanwhile, while Mitoto bandages Seina's wounds, Airi and Mikami apologise for the lapse in security that allowed Tarant to come aboard. Nevertheless, they are impressed that he has gained enough skill to single-handedly capture Tarant.

Soon, Seina's family arrive in the company of Seto, Utsutsumi and four of Seto's attendants. Mikami greets them and leads them to the reception hall, while Yoshiko goes off to see her brother before the service, and Seto's attendants sneak off on a mission of their own...

An unexpected couplingIn the reception hall, Rajau frantically searches the assembled diners for signs of his "dear Elma", and Ryoko unexpectedly shifts back into her old Elma form for a moment when she sneezes! At another table, Komachi is enjoying a glass of wine when Seiryo approaches her. She is surprised to see her old prisoner working here, but not half as surprised as when he places a single red rose with a diamond ring on its stem in front of her! "For your birthday," he explains, and their eyes meet in an adoring gaze.

Seina has just put on his suit when Yoshiko arrives to wish him luck. Surprisingly, she is hand-in-hand with Kiriko's brother Kai, and Seina jumps to the obvious (and correct) conclusion. Kai even starts referring to Seina as "oniichan" ("brother"). Seina tells him he is a little presumptuous to start addressing him like that yet, but Kai reminds Seina he will be marrying Kiriko soon anyway, so they will already be brothers-in-law. Kai goes on to mention his surprise at the discovery Seina and Kiriko had gone into space, but his life hasn't been free from excitement either; he and Yoshiko seem to have become engaged! As the besotted duo become absorbed in each others' gazes, Seto's four attendants enter the room. They remove their hoods and robes to reveal that they are in fact Hakuren, Karen, Gyokuren and Suiren, the flirtatious foursome who have dogged Seina's every visit to Seto's palace. They explain that they are actually emissaries of the Renza Alliance government, a nation outside of the Galaxy Federation. Their nation has been plagued by space pirates, and after seeing how he defeated the Da Ruma Guild they want Seina to lend his assistance. Seina tries to make excuses — he is, after all, just about to get married — but the four won't take "no" for an answer...

Meanwhile, Airi begins the wedding ceremony by first greeting the guests over the hall's PA system. She then announces the arrival of the brides, and Kiriko, Amane, Ryoko and Neiju step out onto the stage. Next, she announces the arrival of the groom, and a spotlight picks out a platform that approaches from the far end of the hall. Suddenly, the guests fall silent and the music and applause stops; Seina is not on the platform, but Yoshiko and Kai instead! They announce that Seina has been kidnapped, and amidst cries of shock from the assembled guests, the brides rush to the Kamidake and give chase.

Still in their wedding dresses, the crew of the Kamidake head after the Renza ship. Ryoko soon gets a lock on their craft, the Kaeisho, and they give chase. Aboard the Kaeisho, the Renzan girls and Seina are crammed onto the ship's tiny bridge. They know that outrunning the Kamidake will be difficult, but Suiren observes that the ship is feeling rather sluggish. Gyokuren checks to see what the problem is and discovers NB hiding in a closet with his collection of chikuwa fish sausages!

The wedding guests watch the pursuit on large video screens set up in the reception hall (all except Seiryo and Komachi, who are still gazing adoringly into each other's eyes). Airi demands an explanation for Seto's servants' behaviour, but Seto is only surprised that they chose this moment to act. She assures Airi that the Kamidake should be able to resolve this situation with very little trouble. Airi contacts that Kamidake and asks the girls not to use excessive force on the Kaeisho; although she doesn't believe Seina is at risk, he is still their hostage.

*Now* tell me this isn't a Nabeshin anime...Aboard the Kaeisho, the Renzan girls decide they need to jettison as much weight as possible to get their speed up. They all strip and toss their clothes overboard, but the ship is still overweight. This leaves only NB and his chikuwa collection to dump, and Gyokuren mercilessly pulls a chain that flushes them both out! Floating in space, NB hears the cries of NaBiko, who has snuck aboard the pursuing Kamidake, and he is moved that she has gone to such lengths to find her beau again. His joy is short-lived as the Kamidake catches up with him and, once again, spears him painfully on its prow!

Despite tossing almost everything overboard, the Kaeisho is still too slow and the Kamidake soon catches it up. Much to the shock of the crew (not to mention the watching wedding party), they find Seina surrounded by the naked Renzan girls. Kiriko is the first to blow a fuse, screaming at the girls to release Seina. They protest that what they are doing is for the sake of justice, and go on to tell the brides they have eloped with Seina. Of course, the brides don't believe them, so the Renzans jump on Seina to make them believe! At the wedding reception hall, Mikami observes that the argument sounds more like a lovers' tiff. Airi begs Seto do something about it, but Seto just finds the whole thing extremely amusing. With an audience of thousands listening, the sounds from aboard the Kaeisho grow steadily more obscene (with whole words having to be bleeped out!), while Seina's brides scream with rage as they try to stop the Renzans' space-borne orgy!

Some time later, the Kamidake is back on duty and chasing space pirates. The usual crew has grown somewhat; Hakuren, Karen, Gyokuren and Suiren have somehow wangled themselves into the arranged marriage and have joined Kiriko, Amane, Ryoko and Neiju as crew members. Between his eight wives, NB, NaBiko and their numerous robo-children, the bridge of Seina's ship has become rather crowded! Nevertheless, they have a job to do, and Seina orders his crew to chase after the pirate ships at full speed. With a resounding meow, Fuku powers up the Kamidake and it blasts off into the distance, off on the first of their new adventures.
