| Kamidake taiha | |
| Dub title - | The Vengeful and the Wounded |
| First aired - | 19th June 2002 |
At the scene of a recent and destructive space battle, Seina's Anti-pirate Decoy Squad ship, the Kamidake, has brought aboard a damaged escape vessel and its occupant. The man, an officer with the Galaxy Police's postal department, is badly injured, and before he loses consciousness he gives Seina a box, telling him it must be delivered to Lady Seto on Jurai.
With the injured man placed in a medical support pod, the crew decide their next course of action. Jurai is only a short hyperspace journey away, so Seina agrees that they should deliver the package as promised. Suddenly, a warning siren sounds. Dozens of pirate ships materialise ahead of the Kamidake and begin attacking at once. Whatever is in the mysterious box is clearly much sought-after by the pirates. Seina orders an emergency hyperspace jump to escape, but the ship has already suffered heavy damages. The pirate captain allows himself a satisfied smile as the Kamidake disappears — with the damage caused to the ship, he knows he hasn't lost them for very long.
Sure enough, the damage suffered by the Kamidake only becomes apparent while the ship is in hyperspace, shuddering violently as the hull begins to break up. They are forced to shut down the hyperdrive to prevent further damage. With no way to reach their intended destination quickly, and their long-distance communicator out of action, they are forced to pull in at the nearest space station for repairs. However, they find every spaceport is swarming with pirates and they are forced to turn tail and flee. Even while flying, they find themselves chased again and again by the fleet of pirate ships. After days of trying to avoid the pirates, the crew are exhausted and, to make matters worse, supplies of food and water are running out.
Meanwhile, Airi is in negotiations with pirate captain Komachi, who arranged Seiryo's escape from captivity. Komachi is bargaining for the release of a hundred imprisoned pirates in exchange for her assistance. Just then, Airi receives another call with news of Seina's current dire situation. She decides on a drastic and somewhat unconventional course of action, and goes to see Ryoko Balouta in her cell with a proposition for her.
Aboard the Kamidake, the situation grows bleaker. The incessant pirate attacks have depleted supplies and crew morale, and there is no sign of rescue. Alan, Barry and Cohen begin considering less and less rational (and positively disgusting) solutions to the hunger problem, until finally snapping and trying to eat NB! Pushed too far by this indignity, NB turns traitor on them. He steals the package from the safe and boards the lead pirate's ship to bargain with him. In exchange for the box, NB wants just three things — "girls, girls and girls". To the robot's delight, his reward is precisely that; being bounced back and forth upon the breasts of some bikini-clad pirate girls! However, his dream is short-lived once the pirates manage to open the box and discover nothing inside by a chikuwa (fish sausage). NB has been tricked!
Meanwhile, Amane and Kiriko are also suffering the effects of extreme hunger. Snuggled up next to Seina on his bed ("to share body warmth," Amane claims), they tell Seina that if they should die, he must eat them (or at least their emergency rations) so that he can live! Suddenly, the ship comes under attack again, and this time it's the furious NB leading the pirates on! Before long, numerous other pirate ships arrive on the scene, and the Kamidake is surrounded. Just as it seems there is no hope for the damaged vessel, an impassioned cry is heard over the comms as a Galaxy Police battleship thunders into view, blasting several pirate ships. On the Kamidake's video screen, a familiar face appears; Ryoko Balouta, wearing a Galaxy Police uniform! She tells Seina that she has come to rescue him. Her ship leads the Kamidake on a safe course through the pirates, blasting their ships as it goes.
Once the Kamidake and its escort put a safe distance between themselves and the pirates, Ryoko invites them aboard and provides a meal for the famished crew. She tells them she has been sent by Airi to help them find safe passage to Jurai. While some emergency repairs are being carried out on the Kamidake, Ryoko gets Seina alone for a while. She takes the opportunity to express her gratitude for everything he has done for her, and swears to follow him for the rest of her life. Amane and Kiriko are, of course, displeased to have Ryoko as further competition for Seina's affections!
With the Kamidake patched up, the two ships press on towards Jurai. However, there is one final pirate blockade awaiting them, headed by Tarant Shunk's battleship Daidalos. The crew decide to abandon Ryoko's ship and pilot it remotely, using it as a decoy. However, Tarant spots their ploy and seizes control of one of the pirate ships (the one that NB happens to be on), sending it crashing into Ryoko's ship. The Kamidake passes through the resulting explosion unharmed, but finds itself staring into the vast metal jaws of the Daidalos on the other side! The Kamidake is trapped and it seems the crew are doomed. Fortunately, some unexpected help arrives; with a gleeful meow, the Ryo-Ohki speeds onto the scene, blasting pirate ships left, right and centre. The Daidalos and all the remaining pirate ships flee in terror. NB, who ejected from the pirate ship before its destruction, is skewered rather painfully on one of Ryo-Ohki's prongs!
Having returned to her humanoid form, Ryo-Ohki is invited aboard the Kamidake. They take tea together, and Ryoko is overjoyed to meet Ryo-Ohki, the ship belonging to the legendary space pirate after whom she was named.
Some time later, a Juraian escort ship arrives, and Ryo-Ohki leaves them as they make the last leg of their journey to Jurai. In the meantime, the crew have some punishment to mete out to NB for his traitorous behaviour!
