| Dub title - | A Stormy Voyage |
| First aired - | 29th May 2002 |
At long last, Seina has completed the first stage of his body control training and he is ready to put his skills into practice on an actual space voyage. Seina is looking forward to going back into space, but Elma is worried about his safety. Amane reassures her, telling her that they will be going through an area where even the space pirates don't bother to go, so they will be quite safe. Kiriko remembers that her first trip into space was an uneventful one, but Seina's excitement at his first proper space voyage reminds her of how she used to feel about space travel as well.
The cargo ship that will carry Seina and his freshman colleagues on their first practical lesson readies for departure. Seiryo Tennan is, somewhat unwisely, chosen as the captain, with Amane as the first officer. Kiriko, Elma, Airi and principal Mikami are there to wave them off, and as the ship departs Rajau bids a downhearted farewell to Elma, on whom he has developed a crush. As the ship leaves the spaceport all the students are called to their posts, and NB leaves to roam the ship, eager to cause some mischief.
The students' duty is a pretty menial one; stamping parcels. Kenneth and Rajau are glad the work is easy, but Seina observes that it seems more like a job than training. After a few hours, the ship reaches its planned hyperspace jump point and the students break for lunch. The bridge crew run through the hyperspace jump procedure, but a few seconds before the hyperspace engines fire up the ship shakes violently. The backup systems cut in but spontaneously fail as well, and the ship drops back into normal space. Captain Seiryo orders the students to return to their quarters while the necessary repairs are made.
Back in their quarters, Seina discusses the engine trouble with his roommates. Rajau wonders if this is actually part of the training, and Kenneth suggests that a fake pirate attack might be next. NB returns, having hacked into the ship's security system, allowing him to watch the cameras in the ladies' locker room and bathroom! As Seina and his friends are eagerly ogling NB's video feed, the ship suddenly shudders violently. They are under attack from space pirates. Captain Seiryo orders his crew to fire, but they point out (repeatedly, without actually getting through to him) that without their engines they cannot fire the ship's weapons either. They send out a distress call to all GP ships in the vicinity, but the pirates are already upon them. The pirates' lasers fail to penetrate the ship's shields, but they launch several smaller vessels that fly through the shields and pierce the hull with their pointed bows. The vessels split open and troops of pirates pour out to take over the ship. Seiryo orders all students to remain in their quarters, and all communication lines are cut, putting an end to NB's peepshow. Kenneth and Rajau are still certain the pirate attack is all part of their training, and convince Seina to come with them while NB looks for another communication port.
Outside, the corridors are in darkness. NB has found another communication port, but can only get images from nearby security cameras. They spot a figure on one of the screens, but in the subdued light they cannot make him out. The figure draws a laser sword and rushes towards them; it is Seiryo, out to fight off the pirates. In the darkness he assumes Seina and his colleagues are pirates, and he chases Seina down the corridor.
On the bridge, Amane grows exasperated with Seiryo's incompetence, so she grabs and gun and rushes off to help Seina. Meanwhile, Kenneth and Rajau rush to Seina's assistance as well, but they soon get captured by the pirates. Luckily, Amane is on hand to save them, and she sends them back to their quarters.
Seiryo chases Seina into one of the cargo holds. Seina tries to convince him that he is not a pirate, but he refuses to believe him, reasoning that because all his students have been ordered to remain in their quarters, Seina must really be a space pirate in disguise. Suddenly, another pirate ship bursts through the hull, tearing a jagged hole. Air begins to escape, but a set of robot arms pop out and spray a green gel around the encroaching pirate ship, which solidifies and seals the ruptured hull. The pirate ship opens and a tall, buxom woman steps out. She introduces herself as Kyo Komachi, the captain of the pirate ship, and draws her laser sword. Seiryo draws his own blade and rushes into combat with her. However, the energy reaction from their swords sets off the sensors on the sealant guns, which spray them both with sealant gel. Suddenly, the sealant guns malfunction and start spraying their gel all over the cargo bay. Seina, Seiryo and Komachi all find themselves trapped in the solidified green goo, and the room begins to flood with more. Seiryo tries to cut himself free with a laser dagger, but the reaction sets off the guns again, covering him in more sealant gel.
Meanwhile, Amane finds NB, who has hacked into the pirate ship's security system so he can watch the female pirates changing. She orders him to find Seina, and NB brings up a picture from the cargo bay camera. Seeing the trouble Seina is in, she asks NB if he can stop the sealant guns, but he reveals they are no longer answering to the ship's command systems.
In the cargo bay, Seina relies his own initiative and cuts himself free of the sealant gel with a penknife. NB calls him on his communicator button and directs Seina to a control panel on the wall. By shifting the control symbols around on the panel (similar to those tile picture puzzles), Seina is able to return control of the sealant system to the ship, and NB promptly shuts them off. Komachi is understandably impressed with Seina's ingenuity. A second pirate ship bursts through the cargo bay wall to come and rescue Komachi. A Galaxy Police ship is already on the scene, so the pirates are beating a hasty retreat. Rather than wasting time cutting their captain free,
the pirates simply cut a large block of the solidified sealant gel away, taking Seiryo with them as well! Before she leaves, Komachi asks Seina his name, and in gratitude for saving them all from drowning in sealant gel, warns him to be very careful of a pirate named Tarant. With that, the pirate ships withdraw. Amane bursts into the cargo bay to find Seina alone. Seina tells her that the pirates took Seiryo with them, but she (rather gleefully) admits they are currently powerless to get him back.
Some time later, Academy chairwoman Airi Masaki and principal Mikami Kuramitsu discuss Seina's latest brush with danger. They recognise his unusual talent for fortune and misfortune as being similar to that of Mitoto and Mihoshi. Mikami is worried about sending Seina on any further training, but Airi suggests that they should assign him to the "Kamidake"...
Back at Amane's house that night, Amane, Kiriko and Elma discuss the day's events. Kiriko compares Seina's ability to charm the pirate captain with Sirens (the figures from Greek mythology that drew sailors onto the rocks with their singing). NB offers to show them a recording of what Seina actually got up to on the training mission, namely watching girls changing via the security cameras. Seeing this, Kiriko blames Amane for teaching Seina to be a bad boy!
