The Galaxy Police
Transporter ship finally arrives at the Academy. Seina is awe-struck
at the sight — a massive space station, made of three connected
rings, each as large as a solar system. After the ship docks, the crew
disembark
and are greeted by the Galaxy Police marshal Minami Kuramitsu, Mitoto's
father. Seina apologises for the damage caused to the ship during the
space pirate incident, but Minami assures him that the repairs will
be simple. Seina is led away to the immigration office, but as he leaves
he falls through a hole in the floor and into the control room. He
lands
on a control panel which releases the docking latches on the ship,
causing it to fall into the pool below! Looks like the repairs just
became a
bit more complicated...
Later,
Seina and the captain wait for their turn at the immigration office.
Seina is still anxious to contact Kiriko, so he tries to call her again.
However, Kiriko is not home, and her brother Kai is too busy fantasising
about his favourite female singer to answer the phone! The captain calls
Seina back; they are next in line at immigration. When they reach the
office, Seina is in for a shock, for the Galaxy Police officer behind
the desk is none other than Kiriko! She tells Seina she is glad to see
he has arrived safely, but almost immediately urges him to return home.
She warns him that outer space, and particularly being in the Galaxy
Police, is too dangerous. Before Seina can protest, Amane Kaunaq (the
officer who gave him the GP enrolment form in episode
1) bursts in and throws her arms around him, much to Kiriko's chagrin.
Amane has already heard the news of Seina's part in capturing hundreds
of space pirates has, and she is strongly in favour of him joining the
Galaxy Police. Kiriko still insists that Seina should return to Earth,
and an argument ensues. Luckily, they are all called before the Galaxy
Police Academy chairwoman before the situation can escalate.
In
the office of chairwoman Airi Masaki, Kiriko continues her protestation
about Seina being allowed into the Galaxy Police. She points out that
it is forbidden to recruit people from relatively primitive planets,
adding that Seina has already been placed in danger as a result of Amane's
actions. Airi has to agree, but Amane maintains that a man with Seina's
unusual talent would be wasted elsewhere. Airi mentions that both Seina's
family and Princess Seto have approved his entry to the Academy, and
one other Earthling was admitted previously, so ultimately it should
be Seina's decision. Seina pauses for a moment, then tells Airi that
although he realises police work is dangerous, he would rather go ahead
and enrol. Kiriko is clearly angry, but Airi is pleased, and she leads
him away to start enrolment.
While Seina is away,
the principal of the Academy, Mikami (who also happens to be the Galaxy
Police marshal's sister), has some important news for Amane and Kiriko.
In light of her dubious judgement in recruiting Seina, Amane's forthcoming
promotion to first-class detective has been suspended and she has been
reassigned as an instructor at the Academy. After Amane leaves, Mikami
tells Kiriko that she understands about her relationship with Seina
and why she is so concerned about his welfare. Therefore, Kiriko is
also to be reassigned as an instructor. Mikami tells her that Seto herself
wants Kiriko to "train him to become a man".
Meanwhile,
Airi walks Seina across the campus to the enrolment office. Before long,
they meet Elma, a Wau (a race of aliens with lion-like faces). Elma
greets Seina by nuzzling him. Seina tells her that she seems familiar,
but quickly dismisses the thought as he has never met a non-humanoid
alien before. With a parting smile, Elma tells Seina that he is welcome
to a date any time! Airi teases him by telling him she will rat on him
to Kiriko. Seina assures her he wasn't trying to pick Elma up, explaining
that the smell of her perfume just seemed familiar.
After Seina completes
his basic physical prior to enrolment, Airi offers to show him around
the campus. She teases him again, asking if he would prefer a younger
lady like Elma to give him a tour, but Seina says he doesn't mind. Airi
steps aside for a moment to take a call on her communicator badge, and
Seina is approached by a rather ostentatious man who declares that he
despises all Earthlings. He suggests to Seina that he should go back
home, but Airi overhears the man's diatribe and, giving him a clout
over the head, tells him not to intimidate the new recruits. The man
quickly makes his excuses and leaves, and Seina asks Airi who he was.
Airi tells him the man was Seiryo Tennan, once a potential suitor for
a Juraian princess, and now an instructor at the Academy following his
defeat at the hands of Tenchi Masaki (see Tenchi
Muyo! OVA episode 13). Seina asks Airi what Tenchi has to do with
the Juraian royal family, and Airi explains that Yosho, the son of the
king of Jurai, was her husband, meaning she is Tenchi's grandmother
(although she reacts very angrily to anyone who calls her a grandmother!).
Airi goes on to tell Seina that even Kiriko and Kai are related to the
Juraian royal family.
Airi takes Seina
to receive his new uniform, a highly advanced garment that can change
size and colour to suit its wearer, as well as disperse sweat, promote
faster healing and even produce a force field. Seina is impressed at
this level of technology, but Airi assures him that most people wear
regular clothes outside police duty; they may be practical, but there
is no substitute for variety and comfort.
Finally,
Seina is shown to his quarters, where he is greeted by his new roommates
Kenneth Barr, a humanoid, and Rajau Ga Waura, another Wau. They present
Seina with his new assistant robot, NB, developed specially to aid him
in adjusting to life in the Galaxy Police. They also show him the nano-shower,
a unit that lets the user wash without removing their clothes. Alas,
their demonstration of the nano-shower goes wrong when it somehow switches
into laundry mode, leaving Seina and Kenneth dazed and upside-down!
Their demonstration of the apartment door's fingerprint-operated lock
goes similarly awry, locking all three of them out. After finally getting
back into their quarters, Seina explains that he has terrible bad luck
that even affects people around him, and suggests that they both move
quarters, but Kenneth and Rajau laugh it off. They show Seina how to
order meals, which appear on the table within seconds, but even this
goes wrong for poor Seina, as tray after tray of food materialises in
front of him. Kenneth muses that perhaps he and Rajau would be better
off changing rooms after all!
