Episode 2 -  Police and Pirates
  keisatsu to kaizoku
  keisatsu to kaizoku
Dub title - Invasion
First aired - 10th April 2002

He's really in outer space! On board the Galaxy Police transporter ship, the captain leads Seina Yamada to the ship's bridge. Seina still cannot quite believe that he is in space, but Mitoto has the perfect way to convince him. She touches a button on her cuff and the walls of the corridor fade away, revealing the space and planets surrounding them. The captain also shows him an image of Earth from space, and Seina gazes in wonder at it. He touches the screen and inadvertently activates a button that sucks him through the screen and into the ship's automatic washing machine — even in space he isn't immune to bad luck!

A while later, Seina watches an introductory video to the work of the Galaxy Police, showing officers defending justice on land, sea and air with the latest in law enforcement technology. Next, he is introduced to the bridge crew of the transporter; Alan, Barry and Cohen, and they begin preparations for the hyperspace jump that will take them back to the academy. Seina buckles himself in one of the seats ready for warp speed acceleration, and the ship enters hyperspace. The ride is so smooth that Seina doesn't even notice they are travelling faster than light until the captain tells him. He is a little disappointed that warp-speed travel seems so mundane, and unbuckles his seat belt. Just as he stands up, the ship shudders and he falls over backwards, accidentally pressing a button on a control panel. A siren sounds and the transporter drops out of hyperspace. The transporter has had a near miss with another craft in hyperspace, but fortunately the ship seems unharmed.

Nearby, a group of space pirates listen in on the conversation aboard the Galaxy Police transporter — Seina accidentally activated the ship's communicator when he fell. The pirates' heavily armed fighter ship lies in wait for them...

A not-so-private callWhilst the ship is being checked and prepared for re-entering hyperspace, Mitoto gives Seina the chance to call home. The ship's telephone turns out to be a decidedly low-tech rotary phone, but it has a video screen that shows the recipient of any call. Seina tries to call Kiriko, but finds that only her brother Kai is home. Kai tells Seina to try at his own house instead. He is unaware that Seina can see his every move until Seina notices him scratching his rear and tells him to stop. Kai thinks that Seina must be hiding in the house, and starts frantically searching the room before he can explain! Seina hangs up and calls his house. His sister Yoshiko answers and calls Kiriko, who is in the shop, to the phone. However, before Seina gets a chance to talk to her, an explosion rocks the ship and the phone cuts off. The pirates are attacking the transporter!

Seina arrives on the bridge to find the crew hard at work evading the pirates' attack. A honeycomb-like energy net appears ahead of the transporter, and they steer around it, but find more nets awaiting them on the other side. The pirates launch several missiles which strike the transporter, penetrating the hull. The missiles split open and hundreds of spherical robots spill out and scuttle along the corridors. The crew activates some collector cubes; large transparent boxes that pop out of the walls of the corridors and capture the rat-like bomb 'bots (the collectors even meow like cats!). However, there are too many, and they start burrowing into the walls to take over the ship from inside. Luckily, Mitoto has a plan. Jumping into hyperspaceBypassing energy from the rest of the ship to the hyperdrive should allow them to perform a random hyperspace jump immediately. The crew think they have made a clean getaway, but moments later the pirates appear on their tail again. Little do the crew know that the pirates have employed the services of a brilliant scientist who can predict the pattern of the random hyperspace jump program. Mitoto comes up with another suggestion; instead of letting the computer pick a random jump point, she recommends allowing Seina to punch in the co-ordinates himself. The first hyperspace jump brings them within a hair's breadth of colliding with another pirate spaceship. The same thing happens on the second and third jumps too, and by the fourth jump they are being tailed by hundreds of pirate ships — Seina's unusual talent for near-disaster is still very much in effect! Suddenly, the transporter's hyperdrive overloads and explodes, and seconds later the pursuing pirates appear off their stern again. A trio of pirate ships close in and lock onto the transporter with mechanical grabbers, each one trying to pull the ship in a different direction. The leader of the pirates that first ambushed the transporter fires on the two other pirate ships to dislodge them, then goes after the transporter alone.

On board a Juraian ship nearby, a Juraian lady watches the battle. She is Seto, a princess of the Kamiki royal house on Jurai. She orders her crew to enter the fray and stop the pirates.

Mikagami to the rescue? As the GP transporter flees the pursuing band of pirates, a massive energy field (Seto's terrifying "Triple Z" weapon) engulfs the pirate ships, forcing them to stop in their tracks. Seto's ship, Mikagami, appears amongst the pirate fleet. The transporter crew recognise the ship immediately. Seto hails the transporter and addresses them. The captain, however, seems nervous; Seto has a reputation as the "devil princess of Jurai". Could the crew of the GXP transporter be in even bigger trouble?

<< Episode 1 - Rain, Followed by Fog, With Some Occasional Bad Luck

Fact! Word play joke alert! When Seina is making his phone call to Earth, Mitoto tells him the dialling code is 4989, which in Japanese can be pronounced "shi ku ha ku". This is very similar to the word "shikuhakku", a term that means "to be in distress", and also refers to the Buddhist notion of the eight forms of human suffering.
