General Changes:
In the US and UK TV versions, the original opening has been replaced with a shorter sequence as detailed below. The end credits use an animation of Ryo-Ohki fishing (one of three different endings originally used) and an extract from the music "Ryo-Ohki's Theme" (best known as the opening theme to the first 7 OVA episodes).

| The original 1:25 opening sequence for Tenchi Universe features the song "Love Will Leave You Crying" sung by Sonia (who, interestingly enough, performed both the English and Japanese versions). | ||||

| All Tenchi Universe episodes broadcast on Cartoon Network in the UK use a new 30-second opening featuring clips from the OVAs and first TV series inlaid within the four kanji that make up the Japanese title. An original piece of music composed especially for Cartoon Network is used on this new opening. | ||||

| The Tenchi Universe broadcasts on Cartoon Network in the US feature shots of Tom, the Toonami robot mascot, and the Absolution, the Toonami spaceship, followed by a montage of shots and sound bites from the series, and ending with a blue title screen. After the first run the title screen was replaced blue and grey variation, and there have been numerous minor variations, altering some shots (including newer footage of Tom and the Absolution). | ||||

The break bumpers used on the Japanese broadcast and the US video/DVD releases have also been lost. The pre-break bumper featured Azaka and Kamidake bashing into one another, and then Ryo-Ohki appears. The post-break bumper featured Ryo-Ohki dangling from a carrot on the end of Ryoko's fishing rod. |
