Sakuya
Kumashiro 熊代佐久耶
Sakuya is, at first appearances, one of the few normal,
human girls to appear in the Tenchi series. When Tenchi is in Tokyo,
they meet and almost instantly fall for each other. She is a pretty
forceful character, as she is the one that makes all the moves towards
Tenchi. However, matters are never that simple for Tenchi, and towards
the end of the series, we begin to learn about Sakuya's true nature. |

Yugi
alternative spelling: Yuugi 幽戯
As Tenchi begins his new life in Tokyo, he is unaware
that his every move is being watched by a mysterious character living
in a fortress of crystal. This is Yugi, a being capable of summoning
many demons to do her will, and for some reason she is extremely interested
in Tenchi. She also has some connection with Sakuya Kumashiro, a secret
that is not revealed until the concluding episodes of the TV series. |

Hotsuma,
Matori & Tsugaru
秀眞 真鳥 東日流
Amongst the demonic servants that Yugi conjures up
to carry out her plans are three humanoid assistants; Hotsuma, Matori
and Tsugaru. Hotsuma is a tall and handsome man, who first tricks
Tenchi and Sakuya into entering his cursed mansion house, then later
lures Ryoko away from Earth. Matori is a woman with stripes across
her face. She specialises in creating demons from inanimate objects,
including a huge construction worker to build Yugi a castle, and
an evil clone of Tenchi's father. Tsugaru, a somewhat androgynous
character (although portrayed as a man in the English dub), is adept
at manipulating others. He first traps Sasami in a mirror world,
and later aids in splitting up the Masaki family.

Kazuhiko Amagasaki, whose only previous appearance was a few seconds
in the first Tenchi Muyo OVA episode, returns in a more prominent
role in Tenchi in Tokyo. One of Tenchi's new classmates at his school
in Tokyo, he, Tenchi and Umanosuke Tsuchida soon become friends. |

Another of Tenchi's classmates at his new school in Tokyo. Umanosuke
Tsuchida is the grandson of Dokuzen Tsuchida, the Shinto priest with
whom Tenchi is apprenticing. He, Tenchi and Amagasaki often hang out
together, and like Amagasaki, he loves pro-wrestling, even trying
out the latest moves on poor Tenchi! |

Sugano,
Yoshinaga & Matsuno 菅野 吉永 松野
Sugano, Yoshinaga and Matsuno (in the image on the right, running
respectively from top to bottom) are Sakuya's friends, and they regularly
hang around together both in and out of school. All of them are typical
high-school students, and can often be found discussing the kind of
boys they like, or finding a way of encouraging Tenchi and Sakuya
to confess their love for each other. |

Mr.
Fujisawa 藤沢
One of the teachers at Tenchi's school in Tokyo is this stubble-chinned
fellow. Although not referred to by name in the series, he bears a
very close resemblance to the history teacher Mr. Fujisawa in another
AIC series, El Hazard. |

Suzuki (The Love Knot Goddess) 鈴木イネ
Appearing in episode 2 of Tenchi in Tokyo, this oddball character
appears when Sakuya prays at the love knot shrine near Tenchi's apartment.
This rather batty old lady does everything in her power to force Tenchi
and Sakuya together so she can tie their fingers together with a red
thread of fate, but doesn't reckon on Ayeka and Ryoko's interference. |

Appearing in episode 3, this big purple demon is summoned by Yugi
from a mobile telephone. As the "spirit of cellular phones and other
cordless devices", Zumino is hell-bent on destroying long-distance
relationships by blocking and scrambling all long-distance communications,
meaning that the girls can no longer spy on Tenchi while he is in
Tokyo! |

Daidarahoshi
alternative spelling: Daidarahoushi
大駄羅法師
The first demon created by Yugi's servant Matori is this enormous
construction worker, Daidara Hoshi, for the purpose of building Yugi
a castle in Tokyo. Matori dupes Ryoko, Ayeka, Mihoshi and Kiyone into
helping build it by promising them a million yen (which of course,
she doesn't pay). It seems almost invincible, but Mihoshi's bungling
during its construction leaves it with a convenient weak-spot. |

created by Yugi to keep Ryo-ohki away from Earth, forcing the others
to set out on a mission to the moon to get her back. However, Yu-Ohki

a nasty bite... |

Ketauchi & Masayo Manuketa
ケタウチ・イサオ マヌケタ・マサヨ
When Ayeka decides to hitchhike her way to Tokyo to see Tenchi, she
manages to get a lift from Masayo Manuketa, a leather-clad biker girl
with an impossibly fast pair of wheels. However, when Ayeka discovers
that Masayo is in pursuit of Isao, the only man faster than herself,
the princess decides to sacrifice her own chance at happiness to help
Masayo finally catch her beloved Isao. |

Ikarinu
Sadako
イカリーヌ定子
Summoned by Yugi from a discarded wrestling mask, Ikarinu Sadako
is a legendary female pro-wrestler who is charged with the mission
of keeping anyone from interfering with Tenchi and Sakuya's burgeoning
relationship. The luckless Amagasaki gets thrown repeatedly across
campus by the wrestler when he approaches Tenchi, but finally gets
to face Sadako in the ring.
This character
may be based (in name at least) on Ikari Sadako, Japan's first high-profile
female pro-wrestler who was famous during the late 1940's and early
1950's.
