Tenchi Muyo! GXP Episodes

These synopses were written by Binaroid in 2002 and donated to the site.

Episode 1 - Fog After Rain is Sometimes Unlucky

Seina Yamada, a student in an earlier class at Tenchi Masaki's high school, is a very, very unlucky boy. In a hurry after school to meet with his childhood friend and crush, Kiriko Masaki(no relation); she'd been out of town for the last six months, and he's eager to make up for lost time. During a hurried and eventful bicycle ride there, he takes a shortcut by Tenchi's house just in time for a spaceship to crash into the lake outside. The ship's pilot, a GP officer named Amane Kaunaq, rescues him from drowning. Assuming that he's a regular at Tenchi's house, she suggests that he join the GP, giving him a brochure along with a package for Tenchi before leaving. His reunion with Kiriko is marred when she notices Amane's lipstick (from CPR?) on his face, and when he returns home, his family forces him to sign the application within the pamphlet in the hopes of winning free stuff. The next time he wakes up, he discovers that his application to the GP Academy has been accepted, all the arrangements have been made at home, and he's already on a spaceship taking him there.

Episode 2 - Police and Pirates

As Seina learns more about the GP and the galaxy, his objections begin to fade, although his continued efforts to call Kiriko end in failure. An slight shock during a hyperspace jump makes Seina accidentally cause the ship to start broadcasting from the bridge, leading a pirate ship to begin attacking the outgunned GP ship. Despite Mitoto Kuramitsu's disturbingly expert advice, they are forced to jump randomly to escape. With the pirates able to predict their computer's choice, the crew asks Seina to randomly program the jump drive instead. However, his jumps only make things far worse, eventually leaving them with a huge pirate fleet at their heels and their jump drive broken. They are only saved by the intervention of the Juraian ship Mikagami and Lady Seto Kamiki-Jurai, Lady Misaki's mother and the "Devil Princess of Jurai". For some reason, the GP captain's still worried...

Episode 3 - The Devil Princess of Jurai

As the Juraians mop up from the last episode, the Juraians ask the captain to board the Mikagami to discuss the incident; Mitoto invites herself and Seina, who board ahead of the captain. While Seina's troubles with the Juraian's courtesy phone are only dwarfed by his difficulties with the Mikagami's wildlife, Lady Seto and her aides review his life history, as well as the impressive professional and rocky romantic history of Amane, the GP officer who recruited him. Seto believes that his 'bad luck' was very lucky for Jurai, since they were able to capture more pirates in one day in a quiet region of space than Jurai and the GP had managed to capture in years. Meeting with Seina, Seto and her aide play 'good Juraian, bad Juraian' to persuade him that his 'curse' is a 'gift', before offering him the choice of joining the GP or returning to Earth - with his mind wiped of the entire trip. To him, that's no choice at all, and Seto happily agrees to sponsor his otherwise illegal application. With the visit over, Seina and the others resume their trip, only to be attacked by the one pirate who managed to escape Seina's 'trap' - Ryouko Balta. Gracious, dignified, competent, and beautiful, Ryouko has gained an enormous following within the GP - including the GP bridge crew, who tie up the captain, immediately surrender, and throw Ryouko an impromptu party when she comes aboard. After accepting a bouquet from Mitoto (who both she and Seto greeted as an old friend), Ryouko's question about how the others were caught leads her to Seina. Ryouko shares Seto's impression of his 'gift', and immediately offers him a high-ranking position if he joins her. However, Seina's promise to Seto and his sense of morality cause him to refuse the offer. As the two ships part without incident, Ryouko muses over a photo of her with Seina the GP crew took...

Episode 4 - Fog of Confusion, Unfallen Rain

Seina finally makes it to the Academy, and his efforts to call Kiriko on Earth become moot, as he discovers that she is already at the station - as a GP officer. Her pleas for him to avoid the dangers of space and return to Earth only become more heated when she witnesses Amane's reunion with her protege. However, the Academy's headmaster, Airi Masaki (relation - wait for it) supports Seina's decision to remain in the face of Seto's endorsement, and assigns herself the duty of acquainting him with the Academy. Seina also meets Seiryo, the Juraian noble who failed to defeat Tenchi in OVA 13 - he's been sent to teach at the Academy as punishment, and is all too eager to take his frustrations out on the new Earthling. Meanwhile, Amane loses a promotion due to her illegal recruitment of Seina, while both she and Kiriko are reassigned as instructors in the Academy. In other news, Airi explains how both she and Lady Seto fit into Tenchi's increasingly complex family tree (Airi married Yousho sometime after his departure, with Tenchi's mother a result; Seto is Misaki's mother and grandmother to Aeka and Sasami.)

Episode 5 - Sweet Traps in Darkness

As Seina begins to settle into his new dorm room at the Academy, his roommates, Kenneth and Rajau, invite him on an excursion into town after curfew. After narrowly escaping - almost - being 'marked' with proof of their sins by the dorm's security system in a harrowing chase scene, the trio checks out the nightlife near their campus, only to run into Amane, dressed for a night on the town. She invites the trio into a high-class bar to share a few drinks and some conversation. Although Seina wonders about her uncharacteristically elegant behavior, his roommates utterly fail to care, and the evening appears to go well. But all is not as it seems...

Episode 6 - Entering the GP Academy

After surviving the previous night, Seina has made it to the induction ceremony for the Academy's new cadets. However, after his luck destroys the campus computer systems during the ceremony, Seiryo puts the cadets through intense PE sessions in the hopes of forcing Seina away - and with the other students showing superhuman strength and speed, the plan appears to be working. Amane and Kiriko join forces to investigate the computer's failure, and Seiryo proves to be more involved than anyone suspected. Meanwhile, Erma explains the nanotech enhancements the other cadets share which gave them such abilities, and Seina has to make a choice that will alter his life forever in order to survive at the Academy.

Episode 7 - Living Together

After Seina's enhancement, he needs to undergo training with Amane in order to function normally without a special undergarment to restrain him. To aid with the training, Amane has arranged for Seina to move into her (extremely large) house for the duration. Seiryo's shock at this situation is almost matched by Seina's - and the discovery that both Erma and Kiriko will be joining them only adds to the teenager's confusion. In between training sessions and attacks by a jealous Seiryo, the quartet goes on a shopping trip followed by dinner at 'Washuu's Pore'(don't ask), beginning to bond with each other throughout the day. Seina's luck runs out that evening, when both Amane and Kiriko decide to help ease the soreness of the day's training.

Episode 8 - The Days of Cohabitation

Life at Amane's house has reached a balance of sorts; embarrassing misunderstandings causing nervous tension between Seina and Kiriko, exaggerated into righteous indignation at Amane's flagrant sexuality in her behavior with Seina, while a comparatively restrained Erma mostly stands back and enjoys the show. A suspicious Kiriko and Erma leave Amane and Seina alone to continue his training for the day, trusting NB, his Academy-issued helper robot, to record whatever happens. As Amane attempts to add a personality to the NB while waiting for Seina to complete a training exercise, she begins sexually teasing Seina relentlessly once she realises how seriously she can make him lose his concentration. The events appear to affect Amane's modifications to NB, causing him to manifest a backstabbing 'dirty old man' persona, which leads a visiting Seiryo to where Amane had been bathing, and managing to escape the beating she inflicts on him. On the campus, Kiriko, overhearing Seina's old roommates speculating about the pornographic implications of his new living arrangements with Amane, rushes home in a panic - only to find Seina lying on top of Amane (after an accident, of course); the expected misunderstanding is only defused by the unexpected arrival of Amane's parents. Her father has come to attempt to persuade her to leave the GP and return home, and his disgust at the 'relationship' between Amane and Seina is only amplified by NB's innuendo. Amane decides to prove herself to her father, by showing him how she's been training Seina. During the demonstration, a sudden accident demonstrates the purity of Amane's feelings for Seina to everyone watching. But the rumor mill grinds on, and what will everyone think when they see NB's footage?

Episode 9 - A Stormy Space Training Cruise

Seina's class is taking a short training cruise on a GP cargo vessel, with Seiryo in command and Amane as his First Officer. While the trip starts quietly with stamping mailing labels and NB's footage of the women's locker room, Seina's gift shows itself again as a jump engine accident leaves them helpless during a pirate attack. A misunderstanding causes Seiryo to attack Seina, only to be attacked by Komachi, the formidable female pirate leading the attack. But a glitch in the ship's automatic hull repair system leaves the three of them trapped and helpless in the face of a rising tide of sealant. Can Amane hold the pirates off until help arrives? Will NB help? Of his own free will? Is there anything Seina can do about this situation? What will Kiriko think if she finds out what Seina and his friends were watching?

Episode 10 - Baptism

The GP Academy's cadets have passed the first stages of their training, and are assigned internships where they will serve in the field in the many divisions of the GP. Despite Kiriko's protests, Seina has been chosen to use his gift in the Anti-Piracy Decoy squad. Kiriko has to come to terms with her fears about this development in Seina's life. But, as Mitoto's unique guidance leads Seina onto a GP ship which comes under savage attack by the pirate Tarant Shank and his ship Daidalos, he must face the full horrors of a pirate raid and try to escape while keeping Mitoto safe. Meanwhile, Kiriko must reveal a hidden, darker side of herself in order to save her ship's crew, and she and Seina must face the consequences...

Episode 11 - First Paychecks and Presents

Seina Yamada, the new captain of the GP Decoy Squad vessel Kamidake, is settling in well in his new job. His ability to find or attract pirates is especially uncanny to Ryouko Balta, who seems unable to avoid him. Eventually, the situation leads to a meeting of the Pirate's Guild, where it is decided that Seina must be stopped, and that Ryouko must take the responsibility. When she asks how she can get close enough, Tarant mentions a 'trump card' of hers - named Erma. A somber Ryouko disconnects from the meeting and stares at her photo of them together. Meanwhile, the Kamidake's crew have received their first paychecks, and under blackmail from NB, Seina escapes the company of Amane and Kiriko to buy some 'adult' items for the robot. The disgust of the two women turns to jealousy as Erma finds Seina and takes him on an increasingly romantic tour of the Academy's bazaar area. But as Seina finds inspiration to buy presents for those he cares about, Erma's growing feelings for Seina come in conflict with the mission the Guild gave her - kill him.

Episode 12 - Kamidake Wounded

Seina and the Kamidake rescue a GP officer from a small shuttlecraft, who entrusts them with the package he was assigned to carry to Lady Seto on Jurai. Almost immediately after accepting the package, the Kamidake is attacked by pirates, whose weapons were tuned to damage the ship so it would be unable to escape through hyperspace. The hunt is on as the pirates relentlessly pursue the fleeing ship while preventing them from finding safe harbor. As Kamidake's food supply runs low, the stress begins to take its toll on the crew, eventually driving MB to turn traitor and attempt to sell the package to the pirates in exchange for "women, women, and women". When it's discovered NB's package was a fake, the robot is the first to lead the pirates in for the kill, only for the Kamidake to be rescued by a new GP vessel - commanded by the former space pirate Ryouko Balta, under orders from Airi to escort the Kamidake to Jurai, and determined to serve her benefactor, Seina. Despite complicating his relationships with Amane and Kiriko, the trio comes together in the face of he pirates' final blockade. But will the two ships be enough to escape Tarant and the Daidalos? Or will they need a deus ex cabbit in order to survive?

Episode 13 - On Jurai

After surviving a gauntlet of pirates, Seina and his crew have finally arrived on Jurai. The secret of their cargo, and the secrets of the past of Ryouko Balta, are revealed. Seina has to mourn the loss of his first command, and gains a strange new friend in the bargain. But the Kamidake's crew has something more important on their minds: surviving the hospitality of the Devil Princess, Seto.

Episode 14 - A Strong Little Enemy Appears

Seina's ship, the Kamidake, fell in the line of duty, to be replaced by a new vessel of extraordinary technology and hidden powers. His first mission in this ship is to escort Neeju, a mysterious little girl, to the GP Academy. But as the pirate threat continues, her affection for 'big brother' Seina drives Seina's other admirers to distraction. As a new arrival on the ship complicates matters, things finally come to a head when Kiriko realises the secret that their passenger had been hiding in plain sight - but can she and the others do anything about it?

Episode 15 - Fuku-chan, Runaway

The newborn cabbit, Fuku, is the living computer and power generator of Seina's ship, the Kamidake II - its heart and soul. Unfortunately, her overwhelming fear during the frequent pirate attacks become a liability, virtually crippling the GP ship. Kiriko and the others decide to build an auxiliary control system to relieve Fuku from the strain of combat. Unfortunately, the cabbit, feeling abandoned by the others, decides to run away to a place where she felt loved unconditionally - Earth. Unfortunately, she accidentally brings her captain, Seina - the pirate magnet - along for the ride... Amane, Kiriko, and Ryouko B. have to confront their feelings about the cabbit if they home to save the pair.

Episode 16 - Homecoming

Seina and his crew have been granted permission to take shore leave on Earth, and everyone is making plans to visit Seina's home in Okayama prefecture, Japan. A mysterious distress signal interrupts their plans, and the Kamidake has to face an old foe before they can reach Earth. Once they arrive, Seina gets a chance to see his family and friends again - not all of them natives. Meanwhile, Amane and Ryouko B. get a chance to learn more about Seina - and Kiriko, as well...

Episode 17 - Seina and Tenchi

While bicycling around Okayama, Seina sees the home of his sempai, the galactically famous Tenchi Masaki, in the distance, and decides to take Fuku to see her mother, Washuu, who he's heard lives with Tenchi. Fuku is soon reunited with her mother and elder sisters, as Seina and Tenchi catch up on each other's exploits. Both Seina and the audience discover things about Tenchi and his unique family that they had never known before. Unfortunately, a call to duty brings Seina's dinner at the Masaki residence to an abrupt end.

Episode 18 - Those Who Sieze Good Fortune

The Da Ruma pirate guild has reveald a new threat to law and order in the galaxy; the Good Luck Fleet, a fleet of pirate ships equipped with enough good luck charms to be invincible to even Jurai's power. Seto knows of one person who can stand against the Fleet - Seina Yamada. Meanwhile, in an attempt to counteract Seina's notorious luck, the guild leaders decide to choose a worthy leader for their Fleet. The candidates: Tarant Shank, GP instructor Seiryo Tennan, and (former) GP crewmen Alan, Barry, and Cohen. Whoever finally wins the post must endure a quest around the galaxy to find an item lucky enough to defeat Seina Yamada.

Episode 19 - Show

After defeating the original Good Luck Fleet, Seina and his crew face the pirates' new Good Luck flagship and its captain, Seiryo. The unnaturally lucky pirate ship is able to defeat the Kamidake II, which barely escapes. While Seina and his crew wait helplessly for their ship to be repaired, they receive a visit from Amane's mother. Her request is for Amane to model in a special show held for GP and Academy personnel. Despite her anger about her father's attempts to get her to quit the GP, Seina and Principal Mikami persuade her to take part in the show. As she almost naturally falls into old habits preparing for the show, Amane begins to wonder why she left - and why she's in the Galaxy Police now.

Episode 20 - The Ship that Brings Luck

Seiryo's flagship, newly christened 'Unko' (don't ask), is leading the Da Ruma guild to almost total domination of the spacelanes. Taking a gamble, Seto proposes that Kiriko, a member of an offshoot of the royal Masaki clan, return to Jurai and submit herself for selection by one of the Royal Trees, raising the firepower available to Seina immensely. The pirates refuse to let the Kamidake make the trip without a fight; however, Seto, Kiriko, and Fuku have a new trick in store for the Good Luck Fleet this time. Will it be enough to defeat them once and for all?

Episode 21 - Introduction, Development, and Conclusion

Kiriko is now the partner of the second-generation Juraian Royal Tree, Mizuki - and has become part of the royal family of the most powerful nation in space. The second part of Lady Seto's plan is to merge Kiriko's Tree into the Kamidake II, increasing its power to unimaginable levels. But as both Seina and Kiriko try to make their peace with her new status, the hunt for Seiryo and the Unko turns up something even bigger...

Episode 22 - Duel of Fortune and Misfortune

The upgraded Kamidake II was able to deal the Da Ruma guild a crushing defeat, but Seiryo and the Unko are still free, and hunting them might be impossible now. But an appeal to Seiryo's honor - and his rivalry with 'Lorelei' Seina - is able to lure him into the open for a final duel to settle everything. The only things left to do are teaching Seina how to fight, and making sure Seiryo can find the arena...

Episode 23 - Chase

The Galaxy Army, the military wing of the GP, has decided that with the Da Ruma threat gone, the Kamidake II - and its living core, Fuku - should be transferred to their care. Kiriko and the other Decoy Squad members refuse to surrender their friend. Both sides resort to drastic measures, resulting in Fuku and the Kamidake disappearing from GA custody, Kiriko and the other girls detained as suspects in the incident, and Seina alone and shipwrecked after following the K2 - straight into the arms of his most dangerous enemy.

Episode 24 - Parallel... Trouble?

In the face of the pirates' attack on a village that took him in, Seina discovers the truth behind their legends. Now, he's found the strength to strike back at Tarant's base to free his kidnapped friend. But with both Tarant and the GA willing to level the planet to destroy him, will Kiriko and the others be able to free themselves in time to save Seina?

Episode 25 - Graduation

With the pirate guilds defeated, Seina and the girls go their separate ways as he prepares to finally graduate from the GP Academy. Each in their own way, all five of the Decoy Squad members begin thinking about the future after Seina graduates. But in the face of the revelations from the last episode, will any of their dreams be able to survive?

Episode 26 - Marriage Vows on the Moon

'Nuff said.
